Mission Haiti

Friday, November 13th, 2009

I recently became the Executive Director for a new non-profit organization called “Got Your Back”.

The Got Your Back Movement exists to restore purpose, give hope and show love, while creating sustainable change within communities by providing clothing relief throughout the world. Basically, we are providing clothing to people who have never had clothes, to people who have lost everything and need clothes (i.e. natural disaster, war, house fire, etc), and to children who need an education but can’t afford a school uniform.

Our first mission that we have taken on is Mission:Haiti. We have partnered with Danita’s Children, an orphanage in Ouanaminthe, Haiti, to provide 1000 school uniforms to orphans who want to go to school but can’t because they can’t afford a uniform. Schooling provides the basic tools necessary for breaking the cycle of poverty. However, in many countries, if a child does not have a uniform, they are not permitted to go to school.

When I stop to think about what an education has done in my own life, I really can’t begin to imagine what my life would be like if I never had the ability to received one. Education is a vital step towards breaking the cycle of poverty. I believe we have the ability to eradicate global educational barriers that are preventing hundreds of thousands of children all over the globe from an education and a life free from poverty.

Join with me in supporting GYB’s first mission, as we are helping hundreds of children in Haiti make their first steps towards a life of freedom. Knowledge is power.
